Annie Moses Obituary
December 4, 1991 – August 9, 2020
Anne Wolcott Moses, 28, of Los Angeles, known by all as “Annie,” passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2020 after being struck by a car while walking her beloved new puppy, Saylor, who mercifully survived unscathed.
Annie is survived by her parents, Lynne Lueders Moses and Benjamin Moses, brother Michael Moses, grandmother Elizabeth Ney, step-grandmother Karen Stewart Lueders and her adoring aunts, uncles and cousins in Illinois and Arizona.
Annie was a professional photographer and artist. She studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York and in 2015 received a degree in English and French from the University of Vermont.
Her education began at Canyon Co-op Nursery School, followed by kindergarten and grades 1 – 10 in the care of the wonderful teachers, staff and community of Highland Hall Waldorf School in Northridge, California. In 2008 she moved to Paris, France with her parents, where she completed high school at EAB’s Victor Hugo School in 2010.
Annie loved the beach and the ocean, natural vistas, and the sun, moon and stars. She loved to laugh, sing, dance ballet, scuba dive, listen to music and make beautiful art. She carried her camera wherever she went, regularly turning the mundane into magical images with her impeccable eye and finishing skills. Time spent with “Mikey, Deeders and Momzie,” and the rest of her family, playing with her dear friends, both lifelong and recent, one perfect summer with the love of her life, trips to Hawaii, Costa Rica and throughout Europe – particularly those made with her beloved cousin Danielle, bars and waterfalls with friends in Burlington, VT, and luxuriating in the joy of nature wherever she found it; these were some of the highlights of her life. Tenacious and determined, she worked long hours at her photography and at enjoying life, all while struggling with mental health challenges that too often separated her from the love and joys that surrounded her always.
Annie was a radiant light to all who knew her. Her greatest desire was that everyone in the world be filled with love, be completely emotionally present and act with kindness at all times. In her final year, she worked particularly hard to make this dream come true. She is no doubt continuing that work now in heaven. As one of her dear friends put it, she wanted only to sprinkle glitter on every bit of life. Annie will be immeasurably missed by her family and all those who knew and loved her. We will all cherish her memory and, as this friend so aptly said, we will forever see her in butterflies, succulents, baby animals, sparkles, and in the beauty of sunset’s golden hour.
For some time to come, we can remember her spirit through the Dreams playlist she created and through her photography and design web sites. In addition, there’s a beautiful gallery of photos of Annie put together by Tess Branker, which you can view as a guest.
Annie’s remains were laid to rest in the Pacific Ocean off the Ventura County coast, in view of the beaches where she spent some of her happiest moments.
A celebration of Annie’s life was held at Middle Ranch in Lake View Terrace on August 22, 2020
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America to help further the Waldorf Education Annie loved so much.
